Roger Moore backs Northern Ireland drama award

From Simon Templar to James Bond, his name is synonymous with many cult characters.

But Sir Roger Moore is set to lend his name to a new role — a drama award for Northern Ireland’s most promising young students.

Moore has agreed to be the patron of the New Era Academy, a national examination board for young people who wish to take private graded exams in a range of dramatic techniques and disciplines.

The Academy’s chief executive, actor Derren Nesbitt, who starred in Where Eagles Dare and The Blue Max, said: “Because we’ve had such great support in Northern Ireland, we thought it would be nice to give something back and therefore decided to set up an award for the pupils with the best exam mark.

“I’ve known Sir Roger Moore for many years and we were thrilled when he agreed to be patron of the Academy and to give his name to the award.

“Anyone who does our syllabus can enter for it, from four years of age up to 18. Awards will be given out in various age categories.”
