"Life is fun, even without tobacco"
 |
This is the prevention slogan which will
circulate the whole year at Crans-Montana.
A project which Sir Roger Moore, as an ex-smoker, is supporting.
The prevention of tobacco addiction is
one of PAES’s 14 projects and several information promotions,
in order to increase the awareness of the population, have
been planned in this particular health sector.
|
| To spread the message, nothing
is more effective than... a vehicle. Therefore Dr. Hubert Varonier,
head of the PAES (Plan d'Action Environnement et Santé)
project of Crans-Montana and president of the CIPRET-ITAG/VS,
has taken the initiative to ask the Sierre-Montana-Crans company
(SMC) to cover one of his shuttles with the colours of the anti-tobacco-addiction
campaign. This bus will circulate during the winter season in
the beautiful area of the Haut-Plateau. |

wife Kristina, and Dr. Varonier

Cigarettes are a grave health risk promoted by advertising!
This fact reflects the sad reality of the huge impact
of advertising and the promotion of a product which seriously
damages health and which is responsible for the death every
year of millions of individuals throughout the world.
|

|
In Switzerland, every year more than 9.000 people die
from the effects of illnesses caused by the active or passive
inhalation of tobacco smoke (lung and cardio illnesses,
respiratory diseases and cancer etc.)

|
The tobacco industry understands only
too well the effectiveness of its advertising to recruit
new smokers and to promote brand loyalty among those that
already smoke their dangerous products. It invests every
year several tens of millions to diffuse its awful message
via a range of media (public bulletin boards, sales on its
products, attractive packaging). The fight against tobacco
must also use advertising to inform and sensitise the population
to the grave health dangers of smoking.
