GICLÉE (zhee-klay) Fr.
Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates, including canvas, providing tighter detail and better color accuracy than any other method of reproduction. Archived files will not deteriorate in quality as negatives and film inherently do. The quality of giclée prints rival traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and are commonly found in art galleries and museums such as NY Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum. Recent giclée auction prices include $9,600 for a giclée by Chuck Close, $10,800 for a giclée by Annie Leibovitz, and $22,800 for a giclée by Wolfgang Tillman.
