Albert Moses played a bartender in "The Spy Who
Loved Me". He was Sadruddin in "Octopussy" and he
is an extremelly kind person who accepted to answer some questions
for Sir Roger Moore's Official Website.
Could you let me know about your first role
in "The Spy Who Loved Me" ?
It was very interesting because it was Barbara Bach's
first film role and she was great. She is a wonderful person and
it was a pleasure to work with her and Roger. Filming in Egypt was
fun. Barbara went onto marrying Ringo Starr of the Beatles.
What whas your impression of Roger Moore when
you first met him on the set ? Could you give us some anecdotes
with him, knowing he is a great joker ?
We all meet before the day filming for a meal and
the new actors are all introduced. It is a very pleasant event and
we enjoy ourselves as it is really a party. Roger was very pleasant.
He is famous for his jokes and he did not miss this film as well
and ad-libbed the last lines when handing over the Indian rupees
to me when he said " this will keep you in curries for a long
time". It went down well.
Many people and Roger Moore himself considered
“The Spy Who Loved Me” as the best film of the Roger
Moore era. Do you share this opinion ?
Yes it was a great film. There was lot of unusual
action in it and the Egyptian location added a great dimension to
it.
You returned as Sadruddin in “Octopussy”.How
did it happen that you returned for another Bond movie?
We got along so well in "The Spy Who Loved Me"
that they decided to give me the role of Sadruddin in Octopussy
. It was a lovely role to play. A British Agent working under cover
in India as a Taxi driver. I owned a motor cycle myself and toured
the whole Island of Sri Lanka riding it. It was fun to ride the
very powerful Tuk-Tuk in the film after such a long time.
You drove a Tuk-Tuk with Roger Moore in it.
I am sure you can say a lot about this scene ...
Yes driving the Tuk-Tuk brought back memories of my
younger days in Sri Lanka. I was a daredevil rider those days and
did lot of stunts for fun back home and have a broken thumb as a
souvenir of my wild days. I did the very daring riding inside a
metal globe upside down.I wonder if I still have the guts to do
it now.
It seems there was a great chemistry between
you, Roger Moore and Vijay Amritraj !
Yes, we have to have a chemistry to work together
with anyone in film, TV or stage shows. It helps with the performance
of all concerned.
How was the atmosphere on set ?
The atmosphere on set was very relaxed. We have to
be, to go through the days work. An actor's life is hard but the
reward is seeing yourself on screen entertaining the film goers.
Are you still in touch with Roger Moore or
any members of the Bond family ?
Not really, we meet once a year at parties. Everyone
has their own commitments and live so far apart getting on with
life.
You are yourself involved with charity. What
do you think about Roger Moore’s dedication for UNICEF ?
I feel it is a privilege to get involved in charity
work and I'm glad to make my contribution to society, I do a lot
of work specially with children. There are thousands round the world
who need help and even in England there are charities needing help
for adults as well as children. My charity work was recognised and
made a Knight Commander Of The Order Of St John of Jerusalem. Roger
Moore is also doing a great work. I wish more artists will do the
same.
You are an actor, director, producer and writer:
what are your current projects ?
I have written, produced and directed two TV thrillers
on location in Malta and appeared in a cameo role in both like Alfred
Hitchcock in his films, and I am now working on. Now I am working
on a song and dance show and an Indian detective drama. I have published
two children's book, "The Hawk And The Turtles" and "Mustapha
Mouse Goes To The City".
