Pupils met Sir Roger in Finland

Sir Roger and Lady Kristina in Finland - Sept, 2. 2005

On Friday September the 2nd, 2005 the seventh Unicef walk was opened by Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, Sir Roger Moore. He held a press conference at the hotel Torni in Helsinki, Finland, and started this year’s walking campaign.

The honorary guests of the press conference were the pupils from the various Finnish Unicef schools. School of Laurilahti, Espoo was represented by the fourth graders Aamos Varesmaa and Juha Eriksson accompanied with their teacher Liisa Vallenius. Fifth graders Nicole Takkula and Eeva-Liisa Wäre with their principal Heikki Eskola represented the School of Munkkiniemi, Helsinki.

The pupils were able to ask some questions to Sir Moore after his speech.

Sir Roger Moore and the members of the media listened carefully when pupils from Espoo asked:

“How did you become Unicef Goodwill Ambassador?”

It turned out that a good friend of Sir Moore, an actress Audrey Hepburn had allured him to join the Unicef work.

The pupils from Munkkiniemi wanted to know what is the most important task of the Goodwill Ambassador and what should the ordinary people think of the Unicef? Sir Roger Moore answered that for him the most important thing is to travel all over the world to speak about Unicef work and in that way to try and secure the well-being of children. By speaking about Unicef he tries to encourage more men and women to take part in the work and help children.

He wishes that all the people in the world would think the same way about Unicef as he does: “Unicef works hard to help the world’s less fortunate children. This work is extremely important and everybody from the little children to the adults should participate in this work.”

The new Finnish Goodwill Ambassador, Jyrki69 took part in the event. In this photo Jyrki69 is with Sir Moore and his wife, Lady Kristina.
