The Feature shown in the
winter 1970 edition of "Men in Vogue" Tony Curtis saw and
liked cloth Roger Moore wore in the early episodes of the
new TV series The Persuaders. So much so that Mr. Curtis
requested various Pearson/Foster suit lengths.
This is the company proposal to use Roger
Moore edited version
Wilkinson Fine Textiles and Roger Moore
Wilkinson LTD is a company which has been
set up to design and market fabrics for all types , but mainly
Worsted and Polyester Worsted mixtures. In this country one
leading account has been placed to the value of £50.000 and
orders booked by David Wilkinson on a North America tour
bring the total procurement to £200.00. A further £300.00
of orders procured is forecast for the current year ending
1971.
However in view of the benefit obtained by
Pearson and Foster in the past we propose that Mr. Moore
should join them in design and marketing for two very good
reasons.
The Man
Because of his involvement in films and particularly,
Television Mr. Moore has to be extremely fashion conscious
and always on the look out for new ideas in men's clothing
for his screen roles.Mr Moore has training in fine arts and
this is now put to good use in translating fashion ides in
his own style ( not being outlandish or a flamboyant dresser,
his style, both in clothes and cloth, are liked by most people).
This active interest is a positive help in creating new designs
for our cloth and when it comes to selling those designs he
is equally adept. This is the general part Mr. Moors plays
in the company which is not widely publicised.
Probably the greatest asset to us and our
customers is the ability to link collections of clothes with
Roger Moore and promote them with individual customers
. This is so to attractive to our customers and has
proved so successful that sales of our cloth have greatly
increased.
We might add that the clothing manufactures
pay for all direct promotional activity including visits to
retail stores by Mr. Moore and all advertising , point of
sale displays materials etc
Wilkinson LTD firmly believe that with the
services of Roger Moore world wide sales can be increased
considerably at a better price than , could be otherwise
obtained. This is obviously of benefit to our company, but
also to the fibre producers as a good percentage of business
is booked by us at the expense of foreign manufactures and
fibre producers.
The benefits in terms of increasing sales
and high prestige for ICI, are obvious and can be demonstrated
in part by several advertisements shown later in the booklet
featuring "Terylene" in Roger Moore collection of clothes
and propose that a small contribution from ICI of £ 500
would be fair and reasonable

How Roger became involved
successfully in the world of Design at Pearson and Fosters.
Mr. Moore became
associated with Pearson/Foster in 1967. An initial introduction
was arranged by Mrs. Peggy Rushton and Mr. Wilkinson to
meet Mr. Moore to discuss the possibility of a co-operation
in the field of styling, Designing and marketing high grade
Menswear fabrics.
From
the companies point of view the approach to Mr. Moore recognized
the fact that Mr. Moore initial training was in the field
of arts, and that he had developed a real interest in fabrics
and clothing in respect of his professional work as an actor
as well as in his private life.
The
association, from the earliest days founded on the idea
that Mr. Moore would have a real contribution to make in
the designing and marketing sphere and the project was to
be by no means simply a "gimmick" or a labeling operation.
During
the following two years Mr. Moore made visits to a number
of overseas markets for Pearson/Foster and in every case
customers and agents spoke highly of his contribution in
bringing about a successful sales situation in the market
place.
During
this period it became apparent that Mr. Moore's contribution
was not limited to Design and promotional spheres but that
his business acumen and commercial flair in dealing with
the company's customers were of a high order.
Mr.
Wilkinson had numerous letters of appreciation from international
known leaders in the cloth field amongst those Mr. Jim Wilson
of Harts Schaffner Marx, Mr. Sidney Sinclair of Anthony
Squires, Mr. Charles Pearson of the firm of that name, and
many others.
By
the middle of 1970 the credibility of the association (by
this time Me Moore had been appointed to the Board of Pearson/Foster)
was readily apparent certainly to importing international
buyers if not local competitors in the World Textile Industry.
Indications
of this situation can be demonstrated by referring to Mr.
Myron Ackerman's request that Mr. Moore attend The British
Week in Amsterdam October 1970. This was for the British
Menswear Guild of which Mr. Ackerman is presently chairman.
In fact due to Jewish holidays, Mr. Ackerman did not attend
the whole week but his place was taken by his Deputy Mr.
Mengies of DAKS/ Simpson, and this gentleman was so impressed
be Mr. Moore's contribution to the British week that he
made a direct approach to Mr. Moore to see if work could
be undertaken for DAKS. The Directors of Heyworth LTD have
requested that Mr. Moore be involved in the serious promotional
exercise co-relating the companies cloths being made up
at Heyworth's new factories in the North East.
Roger Moore would be associated
with under a 3 Year contract to take an active part in the
design and marketing of the companies goods and the distribution
and promotion of the articles made by the companies customers.
The commercial success of the association is determined
by factors, which cannot be adequately listed here or in
the contract. To attempt to do so would diminish the very
considerable contribution which the writers believes Mr.
Moore would play in aiding the profit earning potential
of the Group to be exploited fully.
The essentials of the cost structure
of the proposed association are as follows
1 The first 3 year contract would
guarantee Mr. Moore £5000 per annum to be paid quarterly
commencing July 1st 1971.
2 Mr. Wilkinson is prepared to
"gift" to Mr. Moore 500 £1 ord b shares in WFT (on completion
of contract)
3 Contributions towards Mr. Moore
fee will be sought from
A Fibre Manufactures (including
IWS)
B Agents
C Customers per their own advertising
budget
D H+M John Walton
4 All money paid to Mr. Moore
through WFT
Mr. Moore undertakes to give
as much time as he is able to attending to the affairs of
WFT and no additional fee is chargeable to WFT in respect
of activities for the company e g TV interviews- visits
to markets etc.
6 Specific payments by customers
in respect of design or marketing activities (EG payment
to Mr. Moore travelling or hotel expenses) will be credited
by WFT. Conversely WFT will pay for Mr. Moore's travelling
and hotel expenses in respect of activities by the company.
7 General Contributions listed
in 3 above will be used to set off the fee paid to Mr. Moore.
WFT will undertake to negotiate
whenever possible terms with agents and customers who are
directly involved with a "Roger Moore collection" which
will facilitate the payment to Mr. Moore of a commission
on sales of WFT goods to that particular customer.

ATTENTION MR. D WILKINSON A discussion took
place in our Sydney office in October regarding
the visit of Mr. Moore to Australia in August 1969.
Advise if Roger Moore will visit Australia. Reply by Wilkinson
, unfortunately Roger Moore is unable to commit himself
so far ahead in view of present filming contracts
Page 2
Based on Mr. Roger Moore visit to Australia
in 1969 Anthony Squires placed an order for 200 pieces in
cloth from Pearson and Foster. Orders will be placed on
the merits of Mr. Moore being able to visit
Australia, as sales of cloth would be based mainly based
the promotional value of Mr. Moors visit.

Pearson and Foster will produce 6 presentation books including
patterns to be dispatched by air to Anthony Squires. 12"

to arrange first class trip around the world for Roger Moore,
Pearson and Foster to pay international flights to Australia
and New Zealand and Anthony Squires to pay for reasonable
