2002 is an extraordinary year for UNICEF and also for UNICEF Belgium. Firstly it was the year of The Special Session on Children, an unprecedented meeting of the UN General Assembly dedicated to the children and adolescents of the world. It brought together government leaders and Heads of State, NGOs, children's advocates and young people themselves at the United Nations in New York in 2002. The gathering presented a great opportunity to change the way the world views and treats children. The Session has also inspirited UNICEF Belgium, which has celebrated moreover its fiftieth anniversary in 2002.

Roger Moore, one of the most famous Ambassadors of UNICEF has been invited to an official reception offered by Sheraton of Brussels in the presence of two Belgian Ambassadors, Khadja Nin and Helmut Lotti. The painter Jean-Michel Folon also revealed a watercolour made especially for this event.
