Roger Moore attended the Red
Cross Gala on Friday, Aug. 8, 2003
The Monte-Carlo Red Cross Gala Ball is held under
the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert, at the Sporting d'Eté Club
in the Salle des Etoiles the first weekend of August. This annual
fund-raiser brings out scores of international celebrities for a
good cause. Elegantly prepared meal, top-nam entertainers perform
and a display of ballgowns that knock the eyes out.
Amongst the 1.200 guests attending from the worlds
of movies and music, fashion and high society were Roger Moore with
his wife Kiki Tholstrup, Gina Lollobrigida, Shirley Bassey, Karl
Lagerfeld, Ivana Trump. The first gala charity dinner was held in
1957. It was Princess Grace, who, as president of the Monaco Red
Cross, lent her legal bearing and Hollywood glamour to make the
ball a fixture on the smart set's social calendar. Her son Prince
Albert has presided over the gala evening since 1982, when he took
over her role with her favourite charity following Grace's tragic
death in a car accident.
