Roger Moore receives Federal Merit Cross

10 February 2003

Arriving fresh from the award ceremony at which he received the Federal Cross of the Order of Merit, Roger Moore paused to admire the large wintergarden area before having lunch with the British Ambassador, Sir Paul Lever. The 75-year-old actor remains very active in retirement. He has been a UNICEF Ambassador since 1991 and is strongly committed to the cause of helping children and families in need. It was in recognition of Moore's work for UNICEF that Federal President Johannes Rau had presented him with the Federal Merit Cross earlier in the day.

Roger Moore, who now resides in Switzerland, played secret agent 007 in seven films between 1973 and 1985, including "Live and Let Die", "For Your Eyes Only" and "Octopussy". But he still takes an interest in films. The former James Bond is a member of the Oscar prize jury. "I watch the films at home. That is my winter entertainment", Moore explained.
