Dear Sir Roger,
Your name is mentioned in the current Amy Winehouse song "You Know I'm No Good". The lyrics are quite confusing - can you shed any light on the matter? I'd like to know exactly what she says and what she means in the line, have you heard it?
Many thanks,
Santa.

Dear Santa

Yes I've heard the song, though like you I found it a little confusing. I believe the lyrics are:

Cause you're my fella, my guy
Hand me your stella and fly
By the time I'm out the door
You're ten men down like Roger Moore

No idea what it means! Answers on a postcard please.

Dear Sir Roger...

I recently read that Elvis Presley was a big James Bond fan and that the last film he saw at the cinema before his untimely death was The Spy Who Loved Me…

I was wondering if you ever met 'The King' back in the 60s or 70s or if you are a fan of his music?..In fact what music do you like to listen to?!

Btw Apparently Elvis modelled his trademark hairstyle in the 50s on Tony Curtis' ducktail after seeing it on screen!!

Best Wishes

Paul

Hi Paul

I never realised it was the last film he saw. I hope it wasn't a contributing factor!

I never met him but was, of course, very familiar with his music. My own tastes have always erred towards classical and chamber music to be honest, rather than rock n roll.

Dear Sir Roger

Hope this question find you well!

In one of your replies to last months questions there was a picture of your goodself with who looks like a young looking James Garner (You were looking young as well I hastento add).  As he's another favorite of mine, I wonder if you can give your impression of him? Is he rather like Jim Rockford?

Best regards
Bob

Hi Bob

Jim is a terrific guy and remains a good friend. He's easy going, laid back and doesn't take things too seriously ... so we get on really well. I'm hoping to see him when I'm out in LA for my birthday in October.

Sir Roger,
First of all, I would like to thanks you for years of awsome quality entertainment, throughout my teens!
Being French, I was truly amazed when I moved to the UK to find out that British critics did not like the Persuaders! It's a TV masterpiece!
Anyway, my question refers to Andrew V. McLaglen.

The few films that you made with him are very good. How was it to work with him and the other high profile members of casts?
Congratulations about your work with Unicef.
Many thanks,
Laurent (South of France and South Yorkshire)

Dear Laurent

Andy McLaglen is such a wonderfully nice man. He's also rather tall and had a habit of placing his size 12 feet on your's when he wanted a word with you, so you couldn't walk away! I have so many fond memories of working with Andy on our three films together. He was trained by a master of cinema - John Ford - and it made him a very canny and clever director. He didn't waste time, and didn't suffer fools either ... but he has a wonderful and wicked sense of humour!

The other cast members - I presume you mean Buton and Harris on The Wild Geese? They were huge fun. RichardBurton had curtailed his drinking thanks to his new wife Susan, and Richard Harris was suffering with hypoglycaemia and told not to drink. In fact he signed his deal contract stipulating he'd remain dry or forfeit his salary; as our producer Euan Lloyd needed that undertaking to get his insurance bond on the film. Consequently the drinking was left to me and Andy!

I celebrated my 50th birthday on the set of The Wild Geese. Euan and Andy conspired to organise a big party for me out in the bush. It was a total surprise! What a wonderful evening.

To be reunited with Andy on The Sea Wolves and North Sea Hijack was a sheer joy.

I still keep in touch with Andy. He loves to update me on the progress of his son and daughter who areboth in the business, and tells me about the plays he directs in Washington state where he lives. I'm only sad that he lost his dear wife Sheila last year. That has left a great void in his life.

Dear Roger,

It is now exactly 3 years ago when you kindly started answering people’s questions. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your effort and ask a question about it:

Are you yourself generally happy and pleased with the development? Is it interesting for you or are you sometimes bored by those questions? And is there perhaps one question you have been dying to answer but could not because nobody asked it?

Thank you very much for everything, in particular for your continuous effort in answering people’s questions.

Kind regards
Martin

Hi Martin

Quite often the questions you all ask jog my memory about certain events and stories, and it's rather pleasant to recall some of the things I thought I'd forgotten, and to reminisce about lovely people, like Andy McLaglen. Alan does a good job in selecting questions that aren't repetitive from previous months.

I can't think of any question that I'm dying to answer. But that said, I never thought you'd find questions to keep me going for three months, let alone three years!

Dear Sir Roger,

How wonderful that you offer this service to your many fans!

I see from books, interviews etc that you, Sean Connery and Michael Caine appear to be very good friends. Now I know Michael Caine has appeared with you and Sean in different films - Bullseye and Man Who Would be King but you have never appeared with Sean in a film...Was the possibility of you doing a film together ever mooted?

I recently read a rumour that you had been considered for the role of Campion Bond - a possible ancestor to James - in the 2003 film The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen based on Alan Moores graphic novel. But unfortunately the character was dropped from the film.

Were you approached about this film or was it just a fanciful rumour..?

Hi there

Well, Sean, Michael and I are good friends. We spoke over the years about working together, but never came up with a suitable project.

I heard that rumour about Campion Bond. I've no idea who started it, but I'm afraid I was never approached about it. It would have been fun. Shame.

I'd still like to get together with the guys - maybe drag Sean out of his self imposed retirement. We'd need a damn good script and a talented director.

Thank you to Sir Roger Moore
