Hi, again, My Dear Sir Roger
Many times, for many years I thought about what was your favorite period in History.
Which age are you fond of? What place and time?
As ever, I hope eagerly to be selected for your answer.
With my endurance love from 4,
Silvy,from Argentina
Dear
Silvy
What age am I fond of? Well, aside from the odd ache and pain, 80 is pretty good - I have my wonderful Kristina beside me, three beautiful granddaughters and a beautiful step grandddaughter; not forgetting my children and step children too.
I'm very lucky in that I have a lovely lifestyle, can afford to take it easy and do what I want to do.
My bank manager might say he prefered the Bond years more, but that's just tough luck.
Hello Sir Roger!
What an honour this is to actually be able to directly ask you my own question. I grew up watching you as 007 in the early 1980's and to me you will always be the number one James Bond.
However, it has been well documented that Ian Fleming's own portrayal of James Bond in his books was that of a slightly dark and super serious professional killer. Perhaps in the movies this has been most closely replicated by the performances of Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig, as well as Sean Connery to certain extent. Clearly your portrayal of James Bond was a much more light hearted and tongue in cheek characterisation. What i am so keen to know is was this very much your own decision and take on how you wanted to portray Bond? Or was it a conscious and executive decision from the powers that be (the producers perhaps?) that they wanted to have a change of direction and emphasis in the style of Bond we saw in your movies? And, if it was your own decision to make, can i ask did you ever even consider playing it straight as the super intense spy of Flemning's novels?
Many thanks and please keep up your fantastic work with UNICEF.
Regards,
David Steinham
Dear David
Guy H
amilton, the director of my first two films, actually set the style. He said 'Sean is Sean and you are you' ... and so I played the part they way I felt I could and should. My own natural style is a more light hearted one, so that came over in the films. I never quite believed in Bond as a top secret agent, after all he could walk into any hotel and be greeted with 'ah Mr Bond we have your usual room ready'. Some secret agent.
My style was right for my time. Other actors play it their way, and each has been successful.

Dear Sir Roger,
If I am lucky and my question is picked you might receive it around New Year's Day, so I would like to take the opportunity to wish you a happy and healthy 2008.
My question is about your progress with writing your book. Has it been satisfactory so far? Which part of your life are you writing about presently and when do you expect it to be finished?
Good luck for it and kind regards from Vienna
Martin
Happy new year to you too Martin.
The bo
ok is coming along. I think we're up to around 30,000 words or thereabouts... about a quarter of the way. I've just finished rambling on about my years in Hollywood at MGM and Warners, and some on my 1970s and 80s films. Next I need to go back to the very beginning and start writing in order! I write about things as I think about them (and I usually think about them at 3am in the morning)... it'll all come out in the end.
We have to finish by the beginning of July as the publishers want the book out in October.

Hi Roger.
I remember as a child seeing you on a TV program using sign language, If I am correct do you really know sign language or was it just acting ? Also I just last week lost my service dog of 15 years, Ace ( the coolest most awesome dog in the world ) and I was wondering if you ever had a special pet. One that stood out above all others that you still think about and miss and if you would share a little bit about it ?
Thank you
Deaf Mike in Washington State

Hi Mike I'm sorry to hear you've lost your dog.
Unfortunately because of my lifestyle, I'm always travelling and therefore it makes it very hard for me to keep pets and it wouldprobably be unfair on them to be honest.
When the children were growing up in Denham, we had a lovely dog called Gregory (named after Mr Peck). I love dogs, and love walking - so that's an ideal combination. Perhaps one day when I retire to my ideal country house in England, a liittle farm, I can get another dog then?

Dear Sir Roger, I admire people like you, whom used their talents, money and fame, for help another persons, especially children. In Colombia, fortunately we have two big
stars in the music world, whom work for the people underprivileged, Shakira and Juanes. Shakira is a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, like you Sir Roger, she has a foundation for the children in our country called “Bare Feet Foundation”. By the way, did you hear her music? Do you liked? Has met with Shakira sometime? Sir Roger, do you want to send a message for the children in Colombia? In the name of the kids, thanks a lot for your time and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Feliz Navidad.
Dixon Moya
Bogotá, Colombia.

Dear Dixon
Yes I know Shakira and of her great work. A very talented lady!
As for my message to the children of Columbo, I simply wish each and every one a safe, healthy and happy new year.

Hi Sir Roger,
Would you like to play a villain or a really bad guy in a movie? Just for a change. Is is true you were offered the role of the hired assassin in the first Day of the Jackal movie?
Claude
Canada
P.S. I would like to see you in a Quentin Tarantino film.

Dear Claude
The bad guys do usually get all of the best lines. Yes I'd love to play a villain - though I'd be a sophisticated one rather than one who does nasty things to people with screwdrivers or such like. That's why I always liked the Bond villains. So yes, I'm available!
