What's your feeling about Italy and Italian people
and how much you and your children feel near Italian culture?
I have spent much time in
Italy over the years, and made a few films there. It's a very
beautiful country. In fact, Kristina and I were in Rome just two
weekends back. We had the most fantastic meal we've ever had in
an airport, in Rome, before we caught our flight home. I'm now
dieting!”

In your opinion, what has been the most beneficial
Project that UNICEF has achieved for a community (or country)
that you have either witnessed the benefits of or been a part
of making them happen?
There are so many terrific
projects and campaigns that UNICEF is involved with. However,
recently we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the 'Change For
Good' campaign, with British Airways, through which £17
million has been raised from spare change in people's pockets.
I was extremely proud to be at Heathrow for the anniversary celebrations.
Earlier in the year Kristina and I were in Mexico City where we
witnessed, first hand, some of the benefits the campaign has brought
about for children there. It is a very positive campaign, having
a very positive impact."

I know you're a gourmet and I suppose you like French cooking.
A friend of mine :English is always teasing me about frog legs'
recipe.
Have you already eat this recipe and do you like
it? I think he never laughed at me because this English friend
admire you ever since few years. Thank you very much for your
answer and excuse my bad English.
I lived in the South Of France
for part of the year, so yes, I do get to enjoy French food. I
have tasted frong's legs, though I can't say it's a dish I'd go
mad for - curried, fried, boiled or otherwise.

It's for you your best partner in a movie or serie, and do you
have a funny anecdote to tell.
I don't have a favourite as
such, as everyone I've worked with has been fun. Perhaps Tony
Curtis (as Danny Wilde in The Persuaders) was one of the more
larger than life ones though. We spent over a year together on
the series, and I remember one day we had a journalist on set,
interviewing Tony, but for some reason seemed to upset him. He
walked away from the interview and said to me "feed 'em
fish". I'm not quite sure, to this day, what it means
but it's stuck with me.

Looking back on your career regarding your expectations
do you feel you´ve succeeded as an actor? And what expectations
do you have for the future?
I never had any expectations as an actor. In fact,
I've never really acted. I have a card which says I'm an actor
though, and I do admit to once dreaming of being Stewart Granger
... I have been very lucky though, and the one thing success and
celebrity has enabled me to do, which I'm particularly proud about,
is work for UNICEF. Whilst that takes up much of my time nowadays,
I always say if I can have a bit of fun, work with nice people
and good scripts, then I will continue acting when time allows!

I also admire Your dedication
to UNICEF. It´s wonderful. It must be so hard to see
all the suffering - how has it affected You, and has it changed
You in any ways? And how do You manage to cope with it?
I once used to worry, when
on a big film, about what we might be having for lunch, or if
my shirts were ironed properly and such like. Silly, trivial things.
UNICEF has opened my eyes to the important things in life. I don't
think one can ever cope with seeing the suffering in the world,
and that's why I try to get involved with as many field trips
and campaigns as possible - to physically get involved and try
and make a little difference.
It has made me a humble and
very grateful person.
An interesting Footnote:
Taken from Tony Curtis’s autobiography. Talking
of his time in the navy when he was very young.
“In a lot of ways that’s what the navy was to me,
shocking, surging energetic questioning F**cked up. It was about
a human being who was looking for some answers. I still don’t
know any, I’m just looking. But in the navy, everybody knew
exactly where he stood right
from the beginning, and if anybody didn’t like it F**ck
em and feed them fish. That term came out of the navy. Some crews
arrived for food, and an officer on an inspection told the chef
“You got to make them some decent food. We need steaks,
potatoes, that kind of thing. And this chef listened to him quietly
and then said “ F**ck em and feed them fish. That was my
bumper sticker for life."
Tony Curtis
PS We will tell him!
The information why Tony Curtis said F**k them and
feed them fish is taken from Tony Curtis’s autobiography
by Barry Paris from 1994.
A exceptional biography offering an extremely honest insight from
the man himself. Telling of his vastly changing life style from
his early days on the poor streets of the Bronx New York, to the
high life as a young Hollywood star.
