For once I asked a question this month because I also have been on the boat trip like Louise below and the guide said the same thing about Roger owning a house on the cost line. So this month we have seven answers from Roger :-) Alan

Hello Sir Roger,I have just finished your book last night and found it a touching, honest, amusing and very entertaining read.Well Done! A couple of years ago, my family and I went to Italy on holiday  to Sorrento. We went along the Amalfi Drive, then sailed along the coast on a tourist boat. We were very excited when the guide pointed out a lovely home on the cliff side and said it was where Roger Moore lived. Our two boys were very impressed to see James Bonds' house and it was an unexpected thrill for us all as we have been big fans of yours since 'The Saint' days. However, after reading your book, I suspect this is not accurate. There is no mention of you living in this area. Was this lady getting carried away to make our visit more enjoyable? Which it did to be honest! Much love, Louise H

Dear Louise

Nope, not me. I have holidayed in that part of Italy, but never owned a property. Still, nice to know the tour guides still remember an ageing actor.

Dear Sir Roger,

I hope you don't mind me asking you a question that perhaps is a little bit out of the ordinary. As a watch collector I am very interested in learning about the the choice of time pieces of famous people. In your case I am of course not talking about Roger Moore, James Bond here but instead your own personal tastes. Do you have a favourite watch which you like to wear? Also, if you have a watch collection I would be very intrigued to know a little bit about your preferences. Do you have  any watches which represent treasure memories in your life?

Thank you and kind regards,

Mark

Hello Mark

No I'm not a big collector of watches I'm afraid. I've been lucky enough to own a Rolex in the past, which I found very reliable and well made. My present Breitling was used in a commercial I did a while back. I admired it at the time, and afterwards Kristina said "keep it". I said it belonging to the production company - she then revealed that she had spoken to the producer and bought it for me!

Dear Roger,
My Mum and I went to Ronnie Scotts last week to see Georgie Fame who was terrific.  What was an even more delight were his little anecdotes between songs and in particular an anecdote about you!  The year was 1967 and Georgie was travelling in Economy Class to Denmark to promote his first hit 'Yeh Yeh'.  As he was getting off the plane there was a crowd shouting and cheering and he thought, 'wow, fame at last!'  However, the crowd had gathered because a certain Roger Moore was also on the plane, but travelling First Class!!  Do you remember travelling to Denmark in 1967 to promote The Saint and were you aware of Georgie Fame?  I'm so pleased Georgie remembered and shared his memories with us!  Please share your memories!
Many thanks,
Tina Grandfiedl
PS How was/is the Seychelles?

Dear Tina

The Seychelles was lovely, thank you. So peaceful.

I do remember going to Copenhagen (more than once) to promote The Saint. I'm not sure I knew about Georgie Fame being on the plane then though. I was swanking in first class you say? Why wasn't he?!

I'm glad he's still going strong and you had a great noght at Ronnie Scott's - I was there last year with Bill Wyman, if you'll allow me to name drop, and really enjoyed it.

Dear Sir Roger

I've just finished reading your bio, thankyou for writing it and for entertaining us all these years. As a teenager, I particularly enjoyed "The Persuaders" and eagerly awaited each weekly episode when it first appeared on Canadian television.

Your work with UNICEF is particularly commendable. I was quite interested in your specific work in promoting "iodized salt" in developing countries. Which led me to wondering if you are familiar with the work of Dr. F. Batmanghelidj MD? He has published a number of books, the most notable of which for me is "You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty!"  In it he discusses the importance of water for health, for healing, for life. He also discusses the importance of balancing the intake of water with iodized salt. If you are not familiar with his book, I wholeheartedly recommend it and that it's findings being more widely promoted.

Thank you again, Sir Roger, for all you have accomplished and continue to accomplish.

Cheers,
Doug

Hi Doug

Thanks for the book recommendation. Iodized salt is such a simple yet vital part of a dietry intake - as indeed is lots of fresh water. I'm pleased you found my book of interesttoo!

Dear Sir Roger

I have read, enjoyed, and am re-reading your autobiography. Thanks for putting it together for your many lifelong fans like myself, for whom you have always "been around". I am 54 and have vague memories of you in Maverick and Ivanhoe but really remember your work from The Saint onward. Really enjoyed The Man Who Haunted Himself! I have many questions I would love to ask and hope they are interesting enough to warrant a reply. Here's the first:

In your biog you mention the misunderstanding of your father in reference to Steve Coogans spoof chat show interview which you "failed to turn up for". Steve clearly has a fixation on you which his character Alan Partridge shared... Did Steve ask your permission to use your image, the framed photo of you as 007 which Alan has next to his bed in the motel bedroom. And if so, WHY did you agree???

Very Best Wishes

John Harper

Hi John

No he never asked about using my image ... but I did find it very funny afterwards. I've since seen more of his shows and he does refer to me every now and again. I guess I ought to send him a cheque?

Dear Sir Roger
I don't know if you are familiar with the BBC1 programme 'Who do you think you are?' where celebrities trace their ancestors and discover what had happened in the family from years before? Have you ever traced any of your family or created your own 'family tree?'
Thanks,
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy

NoI've not really gone into my family background beyond my grandparents. It does vaguelyinterest me, though you never know what you might find out. I do watch 'Who do you think you are?' and in fact they have approached me about going on, but I think I'll keep my memories of my family as they are for now.

Hi Roger, Hope you and your family are well.

I'm a "Regional Sales Manager" for a German Industrial Electronics company in the UK - sounds better than it really is! and therefore often wear a suit and have to look smart. I really the like the ties that you wear now - and have worn in the past. Do you select your own ties these days - are they specially made for you - and does it depend on the ocassion what colour and style you prefer? Best Wishes Robert.(UK)

Hi Robert

All my ties (or most of them I should say) are from Doug Hayward in London. They are not specially made for me - for the shop they are though - and I pick some out each time I'm in town, and have quite a good selection for most occassions and suits.
