Dear Sir Roger,

In the movie The Quest, were any of the scenes filmed at locations that The Man With The Golden Gun filmed? It looked as if there were The Quest scenes filmed at what is known as "James Bond Island".

Do you ever, on vacation, go to  locations that you filmed when doing Bond movies?

Thanks,

Carolina

Hello Carolina

Yes much of The Quest was filmed around the locations where I'd earlier visitied with The Man With The Golden Gun.
No, I've not gone back to Bond locations on vacations. I prefer quiet places where I can just relax and swim. Most Bond locations are now big tourist attractions, and I guess any chance of just relaxing there would be slim!

Dear Sir Roger,

One of my favorite director happened to be Stanley Kubrick, who died in 1999. As a huge fan, I've watched nearly all his movies and I don't remember seeing you in one of them. The only link I found was "The Spy Who Loved Me" where it is said that Stanley Kubrick visited the production, in secret, to advise on how to light the stage...

Have you ever had the opportunity to work with him? If so, what are your memories of him and how did you like the experience? If not, have you ever had any regrets?

Amicalement Votre,

Eric

Hi Eric
No, I never worked with Kubrick. I believe it was Ken Adam who brought him on to the 007 stage one Sunday morning to advise on how he might light the stage.
I was never invited to work with Kubrick I'm afraid.

Dear Sir Roger,

I have been a fan of your films since I was a teenager. At that time in the 1980s, when I was watching your movies for the first time, it was impossible to imagine that one day we would be able to communicate via internet.

I have read from different sources that the final duel in "The Man with the Golden Gun" was originally somewhat different than in the official movie version. Traces of this can still be seen in the special features of the movie, because one trailer includes a scene where you throw a Molotov cocktail towards the rocks where Scaramanga (Christopher Lee) is hiding. What was the idea in this sequence, how did the plot continue after this episode? Do you know, why this scene was removed from the final version at such a late stage?

Because your big birthday is around the corner I would cordially like to wish you happy 80th birthday, good health and a lot of energy to your important work in UNICEF!

Marko, Finland

Hi Marko
Yes I think there are some stills of me in that cut sequence floating around too. It was only a very brief thing, and was obviously cut by the director as being unecessary.
Trailers are often cut long before the director finishes shooting and "fine tunes" his cut. So you'll often see sequences pop up in trailers that don't necessarily make the finished film. It can be a time thing, a pace thing or maybe it's just considered unecessary!

dear sir roger,

I am steven dixon of england and 14, i have seen all of your james bond films and most others you have done over the years and i have set up a tribute site to yours truely, www.freewebs.com/tribute-site

film ?

steven dixon, scarborough, uk

keep up the good work for unicef

Hi Steven
Well you ought to ask the producers that one!

I've always said I'd like to play a villain. They get the best lines

Dear Roger
I have just read the news on your website about Lois Maxwell dying I am sad.
What are you lasting memories of her?
Kindest regards Jane

Hi Jane
I heard on Sunday morning. I was very, very upset. Lois and I go back over 60 years, from our time at RADA. We worked together on the stage, on tv and of course on film.
She was a truly lovely lady, and one who didn't receive enough tributes in her lifetime.
I'll forever remember the fun we had together. Being on set with Lois was a joy. She was my lucky charm.

I will miss her greatly

Dear Sir Roger,

a few days ago you were in the Austrian parliament building in Vienna and held a speech there. I think it was also about the presentation of a fairy tale book "2010 and more nights" (if I understood the title correctly).

As I am not in Austria presently I had no opportunity to attend the event. How was speaking in a parliament building? Did you ever do that before and did you feel you wanted to become a politician?

Thank you very much and I hope you enjoyed your stay in the city of Johann Strauss...

Martin

Hi Martin
Yes I was there for the UNICEF book launch. I had lunch with President Prammer ast the parliament. What a wonderful place and a wonderful building it is. The people were all so friendly and I was honoured to accept the Goldener Rathausmann award from the Mayor of Vienna.
I have spoken in parliament buildings before, but have absolutely no tendancies to become a politician as a result!
