A chat with Gary Morgan, the artist who has painted the portrait of Sir Roger

Gary Morgan was born in Tipton, United Kingdom. He is a 41 old self-taught artist, being aware of his talent from the early age of 11. On leaving Willingsworth High School at 16, he studied art and design. While quietly making his name as an artist, Gary worked semi-professionally, surviving financially by working in local industries, including foundries.

Along the way Gary has won numerous national and local art competitions. He now has works in private collections worldwide, including America and Australia. Gary works from life and photographic studies and his reputation as a portrait artist is flourishing, thanks to the growing number of admirers of his work around the world.

Gary Morgan has had his work exhibited at The National Portrait Gallery and The Mall Galleries in London. Gary's admiration, respect and love for all his subject matter shines through, particularly the personal intimacy and warmth in his portraits.

Gary, where came your idea to paint the portrait of Roger Moore from?

From an early age l'd always shown an admiration, appreciation and respect for Roger Moore's work and persona. And I wanted to convey that in my own small way by painting his portrait.

What are the human qualities you most admire in Roger Moore?

The qualities I most admire in Roger Moore are the ones I wanted to capture in his portrait. The warmth and charm of his personality - a true gentleman. I was very pleased and happy that all the years of hardwork dedicated to the world of film and TV and his inspirational, selfless charity work with UNICEF had been recognised.

Did you have the luck to meet him personally?

Roger Moore didn't have time to sit for the portrait so I was sent three photographs to work from instead. I've only been in contact with Gareth Owen who informed me that he was going to show the portrait to Roger Moore.
