Monte Carlo Glamour
Ball - held at the Park Lane hotel, Piccadilly London on Friday
22 October 2004.
Two out of the three members of the Sir Roger Moore webdesign
team were lucky enough to attend the Monte Carlo Glamour Ball
- held at the Park Lane hotel, Piccadilly London on Friday
22 October 2004.
Marie-France Vienne and Alan Davidson attended, unfortunately
the third member Mark Nicholls could not attend.
The honorary guest on consideration was possibly an even
more important member of Sir Roger Moore official Website,
Sir Roger Moore himself, accompanied by his wife, Lady Kristina
at this star-studded event.

We arrived at the hotel at 6.30 p.m. because it had
been arranged that there would be a photo shoot in the hotel foyer
for the press at 7.00 p.m, with the UNICEF End Child Exploitation
backdrop. We had permission to stand to one side and take professional
photographs. After the photo shoot we went down the very elegant
staircase into the ball entrance room and bar.
Sir Roger and his extremely elegant wife Lady Kristina
also descended the staircase into the entrance room shortly afterwards.
We were very pleased that a Roger recognized us and immediately
came over to say hello and shake our hands along with his charming
wife. We enjoyed a very pleasant conversation in which as per usual
Sir Roger was very amusing. At one point Alan reminded Roger of
his time as director of Pearson and Foster between 1968 and 1972.
The company worked from a mill complex producing
clothes for both Roger Moore and Tony Curtis for use on "The
Persuaders". The reasoning for bringing up the subject was
because this particular establishment is extremely close to where
Alan personally now live. It’s on the outskirts of a village
called Idle near the city of Bradford, he jokingly pointed this
out and Sir Roger replied in a broad Yorkshire accident “Near
to Bradford” which Alan thought was extremely funny. Roger
asked him to pass his best regards onto the former owner of Pearson
and Foster a very nice gentleman called David Wilkinson.
Eventually Roger and his wife headed for a private roped off area
for various interviews. A short time later in the evening Marie-France
was lucky enough to have been granted an exclusive five minute interview
with Roger which had been prearranged, with Roger generously allowing
this to be extended to near enough fifteen minutes.
Other celebrity guests including celebrities Cilla Black, Richard
O'Brien and Sir Trevor Brooking, all to lend their support to UNICEF’s
work to help children throughout the world who have endured the
worst forms of exploitation.
UNICEF’s annual fundraising event which this year was in
aid of the organisation’s three year campaign to End Child
Exploitation. The vital funds raised are going to make a real difference
to UNICEF’s projects to help and protect children around the
world from enduring the worst forms of exploitation including child
labour, child trafficking and the use of children for commercial
sexual exploitation.
Sir Roger was the first guest speaker on behalf of the charity
and very eloquently pointed out the needs of the children and how
lucky we are to live in an affluent society.
At the end of this evening a Christie’s hosted auction saw
two never-seen-before photographs of the legendary screen icon Audrey
Hepburn go up for bid. Audrey Hepburn was responsible for introducing
Sir Roger Moore to UNICEF since taking over the Goodwill Ambassador
role in 1991 Sir Roger Moore has tirelessly supported UNICEF’s
work across the world.
The money raised for this event will support this great campaign
which is running from 2003 till 2005: “I am afraid but I cannot
give a first review about this campaign now, I’m involved
in so many UNICEF fundraisings but what we have to do is to make
sure that governments cooperate, that’s what we do”
told us Sir Roger.
A few days before this event, Sir Roger has launched a new action
with HSBC which is “a continuation of the Change for Good
Program that has already raised £18 million in the last 10
years for UNICEF through British Airways’ customers donating
unwanted currency on flights.
So the HSBC appeal is for people who have old European currency
like Deutsche Mark that cannot be changed anymore, but the government
allow these old currency to be converted into euros trough HSBC.
The public will simply need to go into any HSBC bank and put their
money in a special Change for Good appeal envelope” said Sir
Roger who was more than delighted to see the result of the latest
poll on his website (see below): his UNICEF work is clearly elected
by an overwhelming majority. “I’m very pleased the UNICEF
work I’m doing for the last 14 years is being so recognized...”
What is most impressive about Roger?
His UNICEF work : (43.3%)
His looks : (12.8%)
His charm: (23.8%)
His humour : (14.0%)
His acting : (6.1%)
