A little later in the evening after the meal I was moving across the room when I noticed Tony approaching and so I went up to him and said I don't want to ask too much, but it would mean so much to me on this very special occasion if you could autograph my picture from The Persuaders, and then I will ask Roger to do this also. Tony said he would be absolutely delighted to do this, and not only that he then led me across the room, where he interrupted Sir Roger and said will you please sign this for Alan. It was so delightful of him to do this.

I remember him telling me in our interview how when he first met Cary Grant at the Hollywood bowl who was his all-time acting hero, he was so pleased when he managed to get a photograph taken of himself and Cary together at that moment, and also Cary autographed it. Tony said he still treasures this today, and this echoes my feelings.

In 1959 when Tony was an enormous film star in Hollywood he was given the opportunity to choose the kind of film you wanted to make next. Also he was asked who we would like to star in the film with him, and he chose Cary Grant and I believe he gave graciously gave Cary top billing. Tony told me in my interview with him in October 2005 that one of the nicest things about this was that particular film was his most profitable be made, and isn’t that nice to achieve that with your closest friend. Sometimes you just want to give something back and be involved with those you esteem.

During the evening I sat down with Gareth and enjoyed a conversation with him, and then at one point he said Roger and Tony will be leaving together and I am organizing their car now.

A little while later Tony and Sir Roger were leaving with their wives and as they left I went up to Sir Roger and said thank you for such a wonderful evening, and also thank you for answering the questions each month on your official forum, because this gives a lot of your fans a great deal of pleasure, and a feeling of connection with you. I said your forum and website as collected a large group of very dedicated admirers, with some very nice people participating regularly

I told Sir Roger that although I admire him as an actor, the most important thing I enjoy from being his web manager, is the fact that in a small way I can help to highlight his wonderful work for UNICEF. It's very true that when I first became Sir Roger's web manager I didn't really know much about UNICEF, but I've grown to appreciate and feel extremely good to be involved to some degree as much as is possible in my position. I can honestly say that Sir Roger's face lit up with absolute genuine appreciation and he then grabbed me and shook my hand very emotionally. It was a wonderful moment for me on this extraordinary night.

Then Tony was leaving and I approached him and express my appreciation for his kindness in various ways and he also was so sweet as he shook my hand and said it is an absolute pleasure Alan and thank you.

What a great night for all, when The Persuaders were reunited and a very special evening for Tony Curtis when he deservedly got the Empire 2006 lifetime achievement award.

On this very special night, outside the Hilton London hotel there was also to lifelong admirers of Tony and Roger as The Persuaders. To very decent gentleman called Bill and Lenny while also lifelong friends together. This is a link to their pictures from the evening here
